Dr. Bedell received his B.S and Ph.D. in physics from the State University of New York at Albany. He is a Principal Research Staff Member at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center where he has worked since 2000 and has primarily focused on developing advanced semiconductor substrates and materials for high-performance electronic and electro-optical applications. His interests include strained-layer physics, crystal growth and defects, ion-solid interactions and advanced semiconductor materials for CMOS and quantum electronics. His publications include over 120 articles in various journals, proceedings, and magazines, book chapters, and over 350 issued or pending patents. He has received the IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Award and is an IBM Master Inventor. He has also given numerous invited and plenary talks and co-edited several conference proceedings.
