Michelle is a researcher in the field of human-centered AI and typically publishes in venues like CHI, IUI, and CSCW. She is particularly interested in how people think about, understand, and learn about AI systems, as well as how to make AI systems more responsible and explainable. Her previous research focused on novice and end-user programming.
Michelle received her PhD in Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis, advised by Caitlin Kelleher, and her BS in Computer Science from Tufts University. Michelle was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at University of Massachusetts Lowell for two years before joining IBM.
