Millipede - A highly-parallel dense scanning-probe-based data-storage system
Abstract
An alternative approach of data storage using scanning probe techniques (SPT) and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) storage medium was discussed. The data was stored in a PMMA film on silicon as indentations. For writing data, a current pulse was driven through a small resistive heater to heat the tip, melting the polymer and producing an indentation. Latest parallel read/write results with the array chip, micromagnetic scanner fabrication and experimental thermomechanical read/write process and bit reliability measurements were described.
