Bio

Simona Rabinovici-Cohen is a researcher and architect at the IBM Research Laboratory in Haifa, Israel. She holds M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in computer science, both from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. Simona leads the breast cancer pilot in the BigMedilytics H2020 EU project that aims to improve healthcare via medical analytics. The pilot develops multimodal AI algorithms that analyze clinical data and medical imaging to predict response to breast cancer treatment. It uses the Biomedical Framework as a platform to integrate diverse analytics modules into pipelines, evaluate and visualize them. Prior to that, she led various projects in the areas of biomedical informatics, information management and storage systems for the cloud, including the projects preservation data stores, storlet engine, kiosk technology deployed in the Hermitage museum in Russia, biomedical information integration, and IBM Clinical Genomics solution. She was also a work package leader in several EU projects.

Simona pioneered Storlets for executing computations close to the data in a sandbox within the storage, and created its first implementation for OpenStack Swift open source. She was also the main author of SNIA Self-contained Information Retention Format (SIRF) specification that became ISO standard ISO/IEC 23681:2019.
