Laxmi Parida

Bio

Dr. Laxmi Parida is an IBM Fellow at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, USA. She currently leads a global team on Quantum for Healthcare Life Sciences (HCLS) and is the Smt. Rukmini–Sri Gopalakrishnachar Chair (visiting) at Dept of Computational and Data Sciences, IISc, Bengaluru. With her research focus in the Omics space, she has led the Science teams in the Cacao Consortium (with MARS, USDA), the Genographic Project with National Geographic, the Sequence the Food Supply Chain Consortium and the personalized cancer medicine system Watson for Genomics.

Her research areas include population genomics, cancer genomics, plant genomics, bioinformatics, algorithms (including AI) and topological data analysis and quantum computing for HCLS. She has published extensively and holds several US patents. Her publications include 10 edited volumes and a monograph on Pattern Discovery in Bioinformatics.

She is an ISCB Fellow, AAIA Fellow and serves on the Board of Directors of ISCB, the advisory board of NYU Engineering School, the scientific advisory board of ACED (Cancer Research UK), editorial boards of BMC Bioinformatics, Journal of Computational Biology, SIAM Journal of Discrete Mathematics (former) and is an Associate Editor, IEEE/ACM Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.
