Variable sample temperature scanning superconducting quantum interference device microscope
Abstract
A variable sample temperature scanning superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) microscope has been built with both the SQUID and the sample in the same space, with the insulation between them provided by a vacuum. Since in this configuration there is no fundamental limit to how small the spacing between the SQUID and sample need be, this optimizes the sensitivity and spatial resolution of the instrument. The SQUID microscope have a number of applications in areas well beyond the study of superconductors.
