Relationship between Faraday rotation and hall effect in amorphous rare-earth-transition-metal alloys
Abstract
The Faraday rotation and spontaneous Hall effect were investigated in amorphous thin films with compositions (GdFe)1-xMx (M=Bi,Sn,Au). Bismuth and tin are found to increase the Faraday rotation, F, the Hall resistivity, ρH, and the sample resistivity, ρ, while Au decreases F, ρH, and ρ as compared to values observed for GdFe. Specifically, F is proportional to the Hall angle (ρHρ). A model first proposed by Voigt is developed to account for this proportionality. © 1983 The American Physical Society.
