Nanometers-thick self-organized Fe stripes: Bridging the gap between surfaces and magnetic materials
Abstract
The fabrication of 5-nm-high Fe (110) strips by self-organized (SO) growth on vicinal R(110)/Al2O3(112̄0) surface (R=Mo,W) was investigated. The self-organized magnetic nanostructures were observed to display remanence, coercivity and domain patterns at room temperature. This growth process was compared with conventional SO epitaxial system which exhibited superparamagnetism or nonmagnetism at room temperature due to their flatness. This fabrication process helped to overcome superparamagnetism without compromise on lateral size when SO systems were used in applications.
