Magnetic and recording properties of Co/Pd islands on prepatterned substrates
Abstract
The magnetic reversal and recording properties of the Co/Pd islands were investigated. Co/Pd islands were magnetically isolated single domain islands and were created by depositing Co/Pd multilayer films on prepatterned sub-50 nm SiO 2/Si islands using nanoimprinting and electron beam lithography. A quasistatic tester was used to demonstrate the recording on island arrays with a periodicity of 100 nm. It was observed from the vibrating sample magnetometry and magnetic force microscopy that the magnetic reversal behavior of the patterned islands were different from the continuous films with a increase in both switching field and switching field distribution.
