Ian Molloy

Bio

Dr. Ian Molloy is the Department Head of the Security Department at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center, a large and diverse team of researchers working in the areas of Cryptography, Cybersecurity, Cloud, AI and Security Intelligence, and Secure Platform Technologies. Ian and his team work closely with the global IBM Research team to deliver sound security solutions to clients and IBM business units to address current and future security challenges.

His primary research interest is in the application of machine learning to problems in security and privacy. He currently leads IBM's research efforts using AI for security, including foundation and large language models and automation for security, as well as novel threats posed by the use of AI. Current and prior work includes analytics for the detection of transactional fraud, insider threat, IoT and container security, and access control. He received his PhD from Purdue University in 2010 working under Dr. Ninghui Li in the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS).
