Gaetano Rossiello is a Research Scientist at IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center. His research interests include Natural Language Processing (NLP), Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KRR), and Machine Learning (ML).
Gaetano's research investigates the advancement of Large Language Models (LLMs) through innovative techniques, including reasoning-driven pre-training and fine-tuning, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), and Agentic Platforms. His work specifically targets challenges in code generation and data management. The practical applications of his research encompass a wide range of domains, including multi-modal information extraction, information retrieval, question answering, and Text2SQL, with the ultimate goal of enhancing knowledge discovery within enterprise systems.
The results of Gaetano's work are published in top-tier conferences in artificial intelligence, and he is the inventor of several U.S. patents. He received an IBM outstanding research accomplishment for contributions to 'GTS TSS Multi-Vendor Services Transformation' and research accomplishments for the 'Deep Thinking Question Answering' and 'AI Recommender' projects.
He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Bari 'Aldo Moro' in Italy. His Ph.D. thesis 'Leveraging Distributional and Relational Semantics for Knowledge Extraction from Textual Corpora' has been selected as the best thesis in AI, an award organized by the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AIxIA).
