Dr Declan Millar is a Research Scientist at IBM Research Europe - United Kingdom, based in Hursley, Hampshire, England. His research focuses on quantum algorithms, particularly simulating physical systems in software for execution on quantum hardware.
He works within the Hartree National Centre for Digital Innovation. He was previously part of the International Technology Alliance in Distributed Analytics and Information Sciences.
Declan is a Visiting Scientist at the University of Southampton in the School of Physics and Astronomy and a CERN Alumnus. He is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), IEEE Quantum, and the IEEE Computer Society.
He attained a Master of Physics from the University of Southampton, where he graduated top of his class on the flagship Particle Physics with Research Year Abroad degree course. He then earned a Doctor of Philosophy in theoretical particle physics from the University of Southampton and Queen Mary University of London for his thesis on beyond the Standard Model phenomenology. He also received a competitive NExT Institute PhD scholarship and a prestigious ATLAS PhD Grant.
