The structure of the title compound, (AETO)4[Pb 3I10] or (C15H14NO 2S)4[Pb3I10], contains chains of octahedrally coordinated PbI6 species along with two crystallographically independent AETO cations that hydrogen bond to these chains. Individual (Pb3I10)n4n- chains are linked into layers via hydrogen bonds. The cations sheath each layer of chains, forming cation-chain-cation triple layers. Cations on adjacent triple layers interdigitate, forming stacks running parallel to [110]. There is a range of hydrogen bonding interactions between each cation and the (Pb 3I10)n4n- chains. © 2003 International Union of Crystallography Printed in Great Britain - all rights reserved.
