OPTICAL SECOND-HARMONIC GENERATION FROM CLEAN CRYSTALLINE SURFACES: STUDY OF SI(111) RECONSTRUCTION.
Abstract
Summary form only given. The surface optical second harmonic generation (SHG) technique has been applied to study clean crystalline Si(111) surfaces. Analysis of the polarization dependences of the SHG process has yielded information on the symmetry of the reconstructed surfaces. A method for identifying mirror symmetry was developed and utilized in precise measurements on the reconstructed surfaces as well as in monitoring the creation of additional mirror planes during the 2 multiplied by 1 yields 7 multiplied by 7 surface phase transformation.
