Recently it has been suggested that siloxene is present in porous silicon and that this siloxene is the actual source of the visible luminescence observed in porous silicon.1. This claim is based on similarities in the infrared and Raman spectra of these materials. In this paper we review the arguments that led to this claim and show that the properties of porous silicon are inconsistent with that conclusion. © 1992.
