Metal-Clad InP Cavities for Nanolasers on Si

Abstract

We compare InP microdisk lasers on Si of varying dimensions with and without a gold cladding. We observe evidence of lasing in the NIR at room temperature upon optical excitation. Au-clad InP cavities lase at smaller dimensions beyond the limit achievable with purely photonic cavities.
