GUIDED ACOUSTIC WAVE BRILLOUIN SCATTERING IN OPTICAL FIBERS.
Abstract
Summary form only given. The authors have detected modulation of the transmitted wave in a single-mode fiber due to thermally excited vibrations. The fact that this effect occurs in a fiber and not in a long glass laser rod results from the difference between the optical and vibrational modes in the fiber and bulk cases.
