The effects of wall inertia on cylindrical magnetic domains are considered, with attention to internal motion and to motion of a domain as a whole. Criteria are given for determining the importance of inertial effects in different materials and under various conditions. The range of validity of the concept of domain-wall mass is discussed. © 1971 The American Institute of Physics.
