DOING THE SAME WORK WITH PAPER AND CRT DISPLAYS.
Abstract
The authors report on the effects of CRT displays and the effects on human operators working with these devices. They report two sets of findings. First, when people do the same work on CRT displays and on paper, there is no differential fatigue effect from using a CRT display on their performance, feelings, or vision. Second, throughout the day, people do read a constant 15-30 per cent faster from paper than from CRT displays. In an on-going series of experiments they are studying the variables that many account for this performance difference, and they briefly mention some preliminary results.
