Dielectric characterization of fluorinated polyimides

Abstract

There are several mechanisms by which fluorine can influence the dielectric properties of a polyimide. We have attempted to deconvolute observed dielectric constants into the contributions made by each of these mechanisms in order to guide further molecular design efforts. There are three main components of polarization that contribute to the dielectric constant: electronic polarization (refraction), atomic polarization, and dipole reorientation polarization. By utilizing measurements at different frequencies we can partially differentiate between these three components.
