With the proliferation of data centers worldwide, the environmental impact of their operations has become a pressing concern. As a result, the concept of carbon-aware operation for a group of data centers has emerged as a strategic approach to minimize carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency across multiple facilities. This abstract presents an overview of carbon-aware operation for a group of data centers, reducing the overall carbon emission across the data centers. It emphasizes the importance of collective sustainability, where data centers collaborate and share resources to optimize their environmental performance. The abstract explores various strategies employed in carbon-aware operation, such as geo-shifting, renewable energy integration, etc. By adopting carbon-aware practices at the group level, data centers can achieve significant reductions in carbon emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and contribute to a more sustainable digital infrastructure.
