Epitaxial thin films of YBa2Cu3O7-δ were deposited on (110) SrTiO3 at 600°C in the presence of atomic oxygen using the laser ablation technique. X-ray diffraction patterns in the standard Bragg and grazing incidence modes show epitaxial growth of the films with their c-axis and <110> axis parallel to the <001> and <110> directions in the plane of the substrate, respectively. Superconductivity with Tc(R = 0) = 82 K was found along the <110> direction in the basal plane, whereas finite resistivity down to 5 K was observed along the c-axis direction. These preliminary results suggest that YBa2Cu3O7-δ behaves like a true two-dimensional superconductor. © 1989.
