Food traceability depends on the end-to-end management from 'farm to fork.' In particular, most food products have a complex multilevel circulation network and various distribution channels that lead to difficulties in building a food traceability system that is effective through the supply chain, starting from the production end. In the face of increasingly rigorous regulations, the food companies producing low-margin products are challenged with solutions that are both economical and effective. We have designed a practical food traceability model and system framework for food tracking and tracing from production to distribution. The proposed system, still under development, strikes a balance between traceability and associated costs.
