Data Governance and Compliance
Overview
Data governance and compliance are two interrelated aspects of managing and protecting data in an organization. Data governance is the process of defining and implementing policies, standards, and roles for data collection, storage, processing, and usage, with the aim of ensuring the quality, security, and availability of data throughout its lifecycle. Data compliance is the practice of adhering to the legal and regulatory requirements that apply to the data, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which imposes strict rules on how personal data is handled and processed.
While cloud solutions offer many benefits for data management, such as scalability, flexibility, and cost-efficiency, they also pose some challenges for data governance. One of the challenges is the data visibility and control. Cloud solutions often involve multiple providers, locations, and formats of data, which can make it difficult to track and monitor the data flows and usage. Data governance requires a clear understanding of the data sources, destinations, transformations, and dependencies, as well as the data ownership, access rights, and responsibilities. Organizations need to establish and enforce data policies and standards across the cloud environment. These processes require coordination among different stakeholders, such as data owners, data stewards, data consumers, and data regulators.
We research ways to add automation to these manual governance and compliance processes and develop novel technologies to enable our customers maximize the value of data for their organization, while minimizing the risks and costs associated with data management.
